17th week 6/11 to 6/17

This was a fun week exceptionally the last couple of days.  However, Monday was pretty good.  There was a Suicide Support Group meeting at the church.  I was up at the FHC and a young man came walking in.  He wanted to know when church started.  I asked him some questions and found out that he was in the 1st ward and had only been to the LDS Church once a long time ago.  He liked the experience and wanted to come and find out about the church.  So I gave him a quick run down and go his name and phone number for the Elders.  The Elders said they have meet with him twice and he is reading the BofM and asking a lot of questions.  He even came to church and stayed for all 3 hours.  He was really impressed and liked coming to church.  So I was happy that I was at the church at that time.

Also Chad Keith and his friend came up to take a piano lesson.  His sister Stephanie was going to come but since she had to go to Farmington, she sent them.  They interested and had a good time learning.

Angle, Nelson and Ania
Tuesday was nothing new or exciting and Wednesday was about the same but then about 7.00 Nelson Parish was there with his two girls. They  had come the the primary practice for Father's Day and they were waiting for their dad to finish with scouts.  So I invited them to come in and learn how to index.  Angel is 10 and really went to work.  She even finished a batch.  Then Nelson come in and while he was waiting for Angel to get done we started inputting his family tree and he got sort of excited about it.

Then Thursday we started on our three day adventure.  We first headed towards Cortez to see Mesa Verda.  All the sights we went to see, are all from same time period and 800 AD to 1200 AD.  They were built by the Puebloan's, who had an extensive civilization.

Spruce House. Yes we walked all the way down.
Willard had many comements on the BYU Hat at Spruce House
The first place we stopped to see was Spruce House at Mesa Verde
Up close and personal at Spruce House
Great Picture of the grinding stones

We are going to hike down into the Cliff Place
Notice the square hole at the very top. That is where they stored their grain
One of the best pictures of a Kive.  Notice the small spirit Hole. Very important Hole in the Cerimonies
This is a great view of how large it is.

Then we went on a guided tour of the Cliff Palace. That was quite a hike and we even made it up the cliff.

We didn't go on any more tours because at Balcony House you had to go through very small places.  It was just amazing how they built their homes inside the alcove.  The Cliff Palace was thought to be a place where the higher ups lived.  They don't know where they got their water and there was a lot of evidence that that people actually lived there and eat.  There wasn't a lot of rooms that had blacken walls for cooking.  Many things they still don't know.

The sign
A very large room. Notice how thick the walls are.
This is one of largest 3 ring Kiva.  It has been back filled to preserve the walls
On Friday we traveled down to Chaco Culture Nation Historical Park.  It was about 2 hrs from Cortez.  We first went on the guided tour of Paublo del Arrroyo.
An overview of the ruins at Pueblo  Bonito

Looking out over Pueblo Bonito
This shows you how thick the walls were. It was amazing that they were flat on the outside
This is one of the largest Kiva
This tells a little about the sight. Hopefully you can read it.
After that we went over to the biggest complex of ruins called Pueblo Bonito, which the Chaco park is most famous for.

They think that Chaco was the center of the culture.  There are even roads going all different places. They were trade routes and evidence that they were even  trading with people from Mexico and Central America.  They found bones of 3 Macaws who only live there. They think they might have been brought there for some ceremony.

They were smaller and believed to be a outlaying group
After that we stopped in Aztec that also had some ruins there.

This is inside a reconstructed Kiva.

We had a good time but the truck started acting up.  The engine would idle very high. We were worried and so Saturday morning Willard got up and thought he needed to take it into the Ford place to have it looked at.  Then he told me he didn't think he ought to ware his missionary badge.  Well I didn't feel right about it so we knelt down to pray about it.  Afterward,  Willard just looked at me and said he didn't feel good about taking the truck in and we would just head for home.  Well the car ran a bit smoother and we had no problems with it.  I know the Lord watched out after us and guided us to the best decision.  I am so thankful for his spirit. And I am thankful for a wonderful man who is in tune with the spirit to make right choices.  I am very blessed to have him and he is a wonderful husband and father. To celebrate Fathers day we had the Elders over of dinner and Willard had a piece of Banana Cream Pie, his favorite.
