A memorable 9th week 4/16 to 4/22

Elder Seeley
Sunday night we were over at the Howards talking and Bishop Axline of the 1st ward stopped by to talk. We had a really good visit and then he asked me if I had talked with Alfrieda Young the new primary president.  I hadn’t and he asked me to see if I could get in contact with her because he was concerned about her.  We talked about the ward and some of their needs. He also reminded me that he wanted me to put together a musical number that the Relief Society could sing in two weeks.  He is a really good singer and loves music.  He sure is a good and caring bishop.

Dan and Pres. Justice bagging seeds
Monday we set off to Tuba City for the Gardening meeting.  We were instructed on how to plant potatoes and onion sets went over tubing and packaged about a 1000 sets of seeds.  I found out that I was hilling up the potatoes wrong.  When you hill up the potatoes you only want to do it about 3” at a time and make sure you don’t bury the leaves. Then I stopped an talked to President Justice and he asked me some questions about the computers and what is needed to update the library here.  I told him what I had learned and then he asked me if I help in the  Family History Center here at Kayenta and help train a director.  I told him I would be happy to be of service because I love it so much.  Pres. Justice feels that Family History is extremely important to make the stake thrive.   When we got home we had the Strawberries and Blackberries waiting for us.  I am excited to get them planted.

My berry patch
Tuesday we planted the Strawberries and Blackberries.  Then I remembered where I had downloaded the order form that President Justice needs to sign to get the disks and sent it to him. I did get in touch with  Alfreida but the call dropped and I could reestablish a connection.  We ate over at the Howards for dinner and the most surprising thing happened.  There were people who actually came early for the  gardening workshop.  I guess they were all excited to get their seed.  We really had a large turnout and sometimes overwhelmed by the numbers.  But I guess it did the trick because we have had more people coming over and getting tillers and supplies.

Primary reminders
Wednesday I played at another funeral.  The gentleman had died in a car accident and he was only 57.  It was a nice funeral with a full honor guard because he had been in the Military.  Bishop Gilmore left a message asking to play for Sacrament Meeting.  Later he called and asked if I would be the permanent substitute ward organist.  This was no surprise because when Sister Williams left there was no other person that could play. I stayed up and practiced and then I had a great idea about the musical number.  I had decided to use the Come Follow Me arrangement that I had done for Primary 2010 and then have the ladies sing the third verse in Navajo.  I found a book in the library that had music in Navajo and I just happen to have that song in it.  I was very excited about that.   That afternoon I did get a hold of Alfreida  and Sister Howard and I went over and talked with her.  Without going into too much detail,  Alfrieda told us her situation and that she no longer could be Primary President.   I had to give Bishop Axline an unhappy report. I felt so bad for him because he had just got the primary reorganized.

Fold it to make a coloring book
Thursday Sister Howard and I worked almost all day organizing primary getting the Sharetime all organize.  We made some cute little reminder slips for the talk and prayers and such.  Also we made a cute book with some stories of Jesus to Color.  Then  Bishop Axline asked me to get the other two ladies together for a presidency meeting before Sunday so that everybody knew what was going on.  Sister Howard and I took around the assignment sheets and I think the kids were excited about participating.   After that I went over to the Reeds for piano to give Glindi and Keria piano lessons.  When I got home,  Brother Gibson came to help me with the accessing the WFI in the church  and get the information that he needed so that he can send in the request .  It is strange that he can get the internet on both sides of the building but I can’t.

Isaiah in the glasses
Friday morning I was up at the church early because a young man named Michael was going to come up for a piano lesson.  But he never showed up until he got his tiller.  We postponed it until Wednesday morning.  But the time wasn’t wasted because Sister Howard and I worked on the music.  I started teaching Sister Howard how to direct the Primary music for Sunday. So that morning was very productive.    I baked bread and while I was there I called the LDS tech guys.  I found out that my old Toshiba Laptop can access the web all over the building too but the newer HP that Jacob gave me can only access it in the Family History .  The Howards computer also only worked on one side.  They said I might need to update my drivers but I don’t know.  Then we  had meeting with Bobby Baily and Kristie Parish.  We thought the bishop was going to come but we didn’t see him and so we just got all the planning done.  After we got it all done we went over to the other side and found out the Bishop was over there waiting for us.  But we all counseled together and he still wants Sister Howard and I to mentor them.  After that meeting was over I rushed over to the Reeds again because the Elders asked me to come and be there when they were going to teach the lesson on chastity.  We had a great discussion and involved some non member friends.  They are going to be get baptized next week.  I asked them  if they would like to go to Isaiah Johnson baptism on Saturday and the agreed to go. They are really sweet little girls.

The Parishes with the new baby
Saturday we got our raspberries plants from Tuba City ( I mistakenly gave a set of them to President Justice so I had to arrange to get them back) so I went out and planted them.  I had Sister Howard cut my hair because it was getting long on the top.  She did a pretty good job.   Then Cori Johnson came over and I did the program for his son Isaiah’s baptism that afternoon.  We picked up the Reed girls and went to the baptism.  Isaiah’s baptism was very special because he almost didn’t make it when he was a baby.  There were many complications and it is only through the power of the priesthood that he is alive today.   After the baptism we took the girls and the missionaries out to lunch at the Pizza Edge.  Then we  to the video store to pick up some movies that the Nez boys might like.  I am going to have their parents bring them into the Family History Center during sacrament meeting and show a movie with fish for K2 and penquins for K1.  Then for the 2nd hour, hopefully Sister Waley will come and take them outside while I play for Primary and then she will take them to the nursery area and sort of teach them and I got so movies hopefully that they might be engaged in.  Then in the 3rd hour I am going to Relief Society to teach and play for them so that they can sing the next week.

The Cranks
Sunday went pretty smoothly.  The Nez boys didn’t come because one of them was sick, but I still corralled Evengilina who is 20 months old who never sits still. So I had her watch the dolphin movie and that kept her quite.  Her mother was walking around due to having a lot of false labor.  Sharetime went well in both primary’s and the 1st ward kids were definitely improved.  Even little Jacob sat on his chair.  It was amazing! After church we all went over to the Howards and ate Sunday dinner then Willard and I went to the 2nd wards Ward counsel.  Then Willard had to leave early to meet with President Waley and he asked him to be the ward clerk of the 1st ward.  He told him that he didn’t have to wait to be sustained just jump right in.  Then the bishop called him and told him everything he needed him to do tomorrow when we get home from the temple. It wasn’t but a few minutes after I sat down and there was Evangilina at the door wanting me to copy off her graduation announcement.  It was horribly scratched up but it was the only picture she had.  So I cleaned it up and made her a copy.  Also I made more prints of her girls.  As I was working on her stuff the Elders came over and asked us to go get Glindi and Keria for their baptism interviews.  So we left Evangiline and went over and got them.  After I finished with Evangiline’s projects and she left I got a moment to tell Sister Howard our assignments from the Bishop and then the girls were ready to be taken home but of course no one was home so we brought them back and feed them a little dinner and then Ralphalita came and picked them up.  Then I finally got a moment to put my feet up and work on the blog.
