March 6, 2011

This has been a fun week. Work is work and not much to say about that except I was one of the top 3 savers on my team with a 70% save rate and I got a big bonus, which made me happy.

On Wednesday, we had to watch Brittney and Hailey while Deborah worked because Buck had to go to Salt Lake for business and so I began to teach Brittney at the piano. She was amazing. Once she understood how the piano was set up and where to place her fingers she was all set. By the end of the session, she knew how to play ODE TO JOY. She was so excited it. I let her take home my keyboard. Today she came over again and she learned the first part of the Brahms Lullaby. We also went over the Visiting Teaching message for this next week. She is an awesome girl. I even learn a little bit of Braille.

Then on Thursday, we went to the temple to be with Taylor when she went through for the first time. As I reflected in the temple, that was a first time that daughter, mother and grandmother went through a session together since I was married. I feel like I am a link from the past to the future. I felt so close to my mother and grandmother there. I know they were there in spirit and too were so proud of Taylor and her decision to keep herself worthy of going through the temple. When coming home from church today the thought came to me that maybe why I love family history work so much is because it is one way that I can connect with them. I miss my mother and grandmother so much. They were my rock. Sometimes I feel so alone and wish that they were here to lean on but I know that I was made stronger through that adversity. I am so glad my daughter did have to go through that experience and they have a totally different perception of motherhood than I do because of our different experiences. It is not neither worse or better it is just different.

On Friday, I had to work one hour of overtime, with the other hour I did on Wednesday due to a long call, I had 2 hours of overtime. We are so busy. We have people waiting to talk to us almost all day. I take about 30 calls a day. I get so tired of say. "Thank your for calling Directv, my name is Linda and how may I help you?" I was so exhausted I didn't want to talk to another person that day.

Saturday, I got up and made 2 batches of Cream Puffs for Taylor's wedding shower. Then Don came over and we had a good visit and went out to Soup 'n Salad. Don and Ellen are going to a diplomatic relations mission. There are one of three couples in the church that are assigned to go to the committee meeting at the UN countries and represent our view point. There is a couple in New York, Brussels Germany, and Geneva, Switzerland where Don and Ellen are going. They are going to be in the same ward at their daughter Alison and her family. Alison's husband is in the Stake Presidency. I am excited for him and they are very qualified for the mission. It really helps that he was a head of the Kennedy Center at the "Y". They are still waiting for their visa's. There are all kinds of hoops to go through still.

Then Martha and Amber came over and we went to the shower. It was quite fun. Deborah made a very cute video with Denton. They had it set up like an interrogation of a prisoner, with Brittney with a nerf gun and did a little water boarding with a cup of water. Deborah demanded that he answer some questions and Taylor had to tell the answers and see if she knew him well enough to get married. It was really funny. She had a great group of friends. It was a special time for all.
