February 6th through 12th

Monday,  6th, 2012
I thought I would share some of my thoughts while reading the scriptures this week. I read 2 Nephi 3 today and found a scripture that total describes our purpose on our mission.  “..to be remembered in the covenants of the Lord that the Messiah should be made manifest unto them in the latter days, in the spirit of power, unto the bringing of them out of darkness unto light—yea, out of hidden darkness and out of captivity unto freedom. 2 Nephi 3:5.  We are helping to fulfill this prophecy. I thought was awesome.

Packing the front room for the truck bed
I spent all day packing.  I got some perfect sized boxes that fit the back of the bed of the truck.  So, in the living room, I have packed it accordingly so all we have to do is to take the boxes out and then fill in on the sides.  I think we will have enough room.  I am using clothes and food for packing material.
We then went to our dinner group over Terri, and Jeff Griffins house. Terri is a wonderful cook. She made a great Lasagna.  It was so nice to visit with them and the Salisbury’s and Jeff’s mother.  It is so good to take the time and just sit and visit and share stories.  We had such a good time.

I read 2 Nephi 4 today.  I just love Nephi’s prayer.  I could certainly identify with his feelings.  I think I will use the last couple of verses in my talk.  I worked on my talk.  My thoughts just keep going all over the place.
I packed and cleaned some more.  I think I am actually making a dent.  Then that night I went to Relief Society at Meadow Lake, they a birthday party for Melba Moore and Suzzie Dyvad. Also they had the sisters that lived at Meadow Lake fill out a questionnaire and I read their answers and the sisters were to guess what sister it was.  It was so fun to get to know those sisters at Meadow Lake.  They all have lived such interesting lives and lived through so much.

We went to the cannery and helped can beef chunks.  Willard stirred the beef.  I was concerned that his back was going to be effected because that happened the last time.  I was chosen to be on the end of the line.  My job was to see that the meat stayed at the last ring.  One of the called helpers weighted the cans every 15 minutes for quality control.  After 3 hours she came and told us we had consistently had cans that weighted 2.8bls for 2 hours.  She said that never happens.  She said we definitely made a record! It certainly isn’t anything that I would want to do for a living but it was nice to be able to service

One eventful thing happened was that just as we were about to start working I looked over and saw Brother Rowe laying flat out on his back.  I watched as his face went ashen white.  It was quite hard to bring him around but he came to and they helped him out.  I hope he is alright. Later he told me that he didn't remember anything about passing out.  I guess he is going to the Doctors next week.

In the evening I started on a white shawl.  I thought I just needed something quick to wear and I didn’t have a white sweater.  Also, I just needed something to do with my hands.

In reading chapter 5, I was struck at all the things that Nephi had taught the people to do.  The Lord must have taught him a lot because when he left Jerusalem he was a young man and probably didn’t have all that experience.   The Lord is the best teacher!

Today we worked on the Kitchen, cleaning it from top to bottom. It reminded me of our moving experiences.  I worked  on the shawl and got within 6 rows to finishing and then discovered that it was too short and so I ripped it all out and started it again with a bigger hook.

I read Chapter 7 which is an Isaiah chapter.  I have been using my Book of Mormon Concordance and really have enjoyed using it to understand Isaiah.   Such as the verse 11 which says 11 Behold all ye that kindle fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks, walk in the light of your fire and in the sparks which ye have kindled.  This shall ye have of mine hand—ye shall lie down in sorrow.
Which means those who reject the light of the gospel must live by the light of their own fire, which is darkness.  I would never like to live by my own light or knowledge.  What a scary thought.

Kris Simpson came over and we went through the house and she meet Jen Kaylor and then we went over to our next door neighbors Glena for them to meet her.  She has offered to teach the gals how to prune the grape and berries.  I am so thankful for good neighbors and friends.

Just after they left Karen Stranton a friend from my childhood called me and told me that Vicki Jenson Williams, another one of my girlhood friends, mother’s funeral was going to be that afternoon.   I had lost track of Vick long time ago and wanted to connect with her.  So we went to the funeral and meet Vicki and her family.  She really has a great family and is now living in Twin Falls.  It was great to see also Dale and Maryann Hopkins.  They had been the stars in a lot of my mother plays.  They were awesome people. .  He was a temple sealer at the Boise Temple. Also their son was there who I use to babysit.  I was so grateful that I got to see Vicki once again.

I worked all day on the shawl and got it done late at night.  It turned out so much better.

I loved the main theme of Chapter 8 because it reminds me that the Lord is in charge of this world and He is the one that we should look to for our peace and salvation. I am so thankful for the Book of Mormon and the prophets that have written down the words of the Lord. That He doesn’t leave us in the dark.  Through the scripture He tells us exactly what is expected and what we need to do to obtain the all the blessing that come with obedience. Thank goodness we have the Bible and the Book of Mormon that testifies of Christ.

This was a day that I just worked at getting the Itouch’s files transferred to my new computer.  I finally got Willard Itouch to work but for some reason mine wouldn’t.  It took me all day just to do that and move all my files from the main computer on to my external hard drive that Joe got me.  Boy, did it go fast.

I was going through my old phone book and I decided to call my cousin Marilyn Shortridge Jones.  She is about the same age and had been a school teacher.  It was wonderful to talk to her and catch up.  It seems that we are both on the same wave length because they are going on a mission to Madrid Spain. They are going to be working it the youth and institute group.  Marilyn service a Spanish speaking mission and so getting her Spanish up is no problem but her husband really has to work at it.  It is so exciting to hear that we are both on the same page.

Sunday 12th 2012
Hunter, Whitney, Betty, Andy, Taylor, Denton and Garren
This was the big day, we both spoke at church and I guess it went ok.  Betty, Andy and the grand kids  made a special effort to be there which I really appreciated.  Also Jim and Debbie were there too. Buck even came with Deborah and kids.  We had a lot of people say they enjoyed our remarks.  Of course, Willard just stands and speaks without any notes but that is certainly his talent.  Then we were set apart by the Bishop.  Betty and Andy and Deborah were there which made it really special.

Then we went to Meadow Lake and Willard spoke there.  What was really special was that Laura Kendel and Serria Willits did come and sing “Where Love Is”.  They didn’t sing it for sacrament because Aubry Andrews got sick that morning and they were a little frightened that they couldn’t do it without her.  But they sounded beautiful and Maddy Bell, who accompanied them did so well.  I was so thrilled that they took the time to sing for me. They are such a talented group of girls.  I think they will be singing together for a long time.  Then we had the open house at Deborah’s.  Betty and Deborah put together the food with some help from friends.  It was really nice.  It was so good to visit with friends from the ward. I am so thankful for a great family and good friends.
