The week of February 12th
Monday we just worked on cleaning the house by the end of the day we were exhausted. However, we were excited to get Sister Olson’s email telling that we were assigned to Kayenta. It seems that there are going to be 14 couples and 1 single brother serving in 9 different places which includes St. Michaels, Dennehotso, Cameron ,Kaibeto, Chilchinbeto, 2 couples and a single in Tuba City, one other couple in Kayenta, 3 in Polacca and one at the Inscription House. We are all going to meet at the Snowflake temple on March 3 at the 10 o’clock session. Since it is 4 ½ hours away from Kayenta.
On Tuesday, Rosemary took me to the Founders Day Luncheon for the Tuesday Musical for my birthday. It was so good to go because I saw a lot of old friends when I was active in the Tuesday Musical. I saw Joanne and Glen Farmer. I had known them ever since I was a girl. She had been active in music in the ward and she and her husband was dear friend of my mom. I think Joanne had participated in some plays of my moms. A new piano professor at BSU performed with a string quartet performing some movements from Bach Concerto in D Minor. It was wonderful and then he performed some solos by a composer I had never heard of. So it was totally a wonderful birthday present.
That evening we went over Steve and Inger Bishop’s for dinner. The dinner was so good and to top it off we had a German Chocolate Pie. Oh it was so good. We hadn’t had a piece pie like that since Plush Pippins. We had learned on Sunday that they got their mission call to serve at the Winter Quarter’s historical sight. We are so excited for them. They leave in late June. We had a lovely time visiting, they have been such great friends. When we got home we called President Justice and we confirmed that we were indeed were assigned to Kayenta and that we would have to roll with the punches because the RV hadn’t yet been hooked up with electricity, water and sewer. The call kept dropping so his brother-in-law called us back and indicated that he would try to get up there but he didn’t know if everything would work and also that the RV needed to cleaned up. We told him that if he would get it working, we would take care of the cleaning. We were a little concerned. Then we called the Ziegler’s who are missionaries at the Employment Agency and they said they would make sure we had a place to sleep when we come down. We found out that our address will be PO Box 399, Kayenta, Ut 86033. they sent a great email explaining how we will get packaged delivered. It said ”There is no mail delivery to any homes. You have to go to the post office and pick it up. (there are very few street addresses on the reservation and no street signs. ) You can get UPS delivery to the property, but only because the driver, Russ, has his own Liahona. The address is, assuming you’ll be in the RV. LDS Church-RV#1, 391 Highway 163 (The 391 HWY. 163 is actually the address for the post office, but if you don’t put it in, it fouls up the computer!) Kayenta AZ 86033. (All the UPS driver needs to know about the local address is that LDS part.)
To get to the property, turn up the hill at the second stop light. It doesn’t matter what direction you are coming from. There are only 3 lights in town and you want the middle one. Go up the hill until you get to the sweeping turn at the top. Don’t go around the turn: look to the left and you’ll see the Church behind the only green trees in the town. Head for the Church to the left, crossing over the cattle guard to the property.
He called it the little "Heaven on the Hill". When I called though they were in a crisis because someone had broken in their apartment and stole their computer and the briefcase that had all their financial information in it. They were quite upset. We are looking forward to the Heaven part.
The keyboard loaded with food storage |
Wednesday we did our final shopping and errands and then went to dinner at Applebee’s. Lets just say that we have had better meals. When we got home we started to load the truck. Things went smoothly until I tried to shut the lid on the truck. So I had to unpack some and take out a red basket. Then it all fix. It was a amazing it all fit. I don’t think I had one space that wasn’t stuffed with cloths or food. I packed the box with the keyboard with all the food storage items.
Thursday morning we got up to do the last bit of cleaning and we were ready for Kris when she came over at 8:30. We were on the road by 9 o’clock. We stopped to see Bonnie Shelton and had a great time visiting with her mother and her. It was fun just to take the time to visit and see how all of her kids were doing. I was so excited to hear that Mike has got a job with Converges that he really loves and is just right for him and his girl is living with him now. She told us that Misty was expecting her 5th little girl. I guess the only little boy has her wrapped around her finger. It was so good to hear how all of them are doing. Then we stopped in at saw Helen Stephens, who is turning 97 this weekend. We ate at her place. The meal was delicious and it was so good to talk with her. She was so excited about her party that she was going to have with her family and that her grandson might be getting married at the same time while everyone was going to be together. We finally got to Ben’s about 7 o’clock.

The Group at Granny Annie's |
On Saturday, Jacob came up and we all went to the temple. It was very busy due to the fact that was going to be closing for 2 weeks for cleaning. After that we all went out to Granny Anne’s for lunch. It really has great food for low cost. Then Jacob took us to bank and Walmart to pick up an iron. The other night Willard asked if I had packed the iron. I asked him where he put it after we used it on Sunday. He said in the laundry room. I then checked with Kris if it was still there and she confirmed it so we had to buy another one and I picked up a small ironing board because I now knew I had room. We had a great time playing Rummikub in the evening with Ben and Jacob. That has become one of our favorite games to play. I even won for the first time but only because Holly helped me. It really stretches the mind.
We hear that it is going to snow tomorrow so I don’t know if we are going to be able to go to church and then go to Genes. I guess we will see. I am going to post this a day earlier because I don't know if I will get to it on Sunday.
