13th week from 5/14 to 5/20

Becky and Kat working at the FHC
Monday morning we got up early and headed to Tuba City for the gardening meeting.  There was not much to discuss but President Justice gave some awesome training.   One thing that stood out to me was when he said that if you don’t plan on going to the temple you might have well have gotten baptized in another church because you haven’t completed your covenants until you go to the temple.
Afterwards, we went over to Presidents Justice home because he wanted me to look at his strawberries.  They looked pretty sad.  I told him that he needed water them and mulch them too. I hope they survive.

Tuesday and Wednesday I spent the time up that the library trying to learn more.  Brother Gibson came up about 5.00pm to get the new systems disks on the computer.  He called the tech support and they took him through the steps and then when they had wiped out the drive and tried to install the new one, they found that they couldn’t because the disks were for Windows XP and the computer had5/14 to 5/20 Windows 7 installed on it. So now we have to order them again.  Another possible 5 weeks until we get them update.   That night we taught the young women how to do family indexing.  It is amazing how fast they learn the program.   Thank goodness people brought their own laptops so that we could get the work done.

The Harvey's trailor in Chilchinbito
Thursday morning while I was up at the church a young woman came in looking for assistance with her electrical bill and she wasn’t LDS.  So I talked with her a bit and bore my testimony, gave her the bishop’s phone number, gave her a Book of Mormon and got her name and I got her phone number for the missionaries to come and visit her. (She gave her permission) She said she was looking for direction.
Sister Keith working on our rug

That evening I went with the Howard to Chilchinbito to buy a rug from Sister Kee.  Her mother wove the rug that is in the Church History museum.  Sister Kee has gone on a mission and weaves rugs for money.  Her rugs are $85 for the missionaries and her rugs would sell for $200 on the open market.   She didn’t have any made but is going to make us both one.  We were excited about the pattern

because it was much nicer than the one we saw in Kayenta.

After visiting there in Chilchinbito, I was so thankful that we got spent to Kayenta.  The Church is just a double wide: there isn’t much there; they have to drive to Kayenta for their food and gas.  So I feel very blessed here.

Friday is I went with Becky and Kat to Page to get my blood checked and to meet with the Page Family History director.  Becky goes every Tuesday and Friday for physical therapy so it worked out well. My blood was 3.6, (at least it is better than last time) so I will have to have it checked again in two weeks.   We had a nice visit with Sister Lund but didn’t learn too much except there wasn’t much they had there.  I found out that Kat’s dad was a Code Talker.  We are now on a quest to find a list of the Code Talkers.

As soon as I got home we went to the high school graduation of Monument Valley High School.  It was their 50th anniversary.   The graduations are a little different.  First of all when you are approaching the gym there are tons of vendors selling, candy lei’s, fake lei’s,  strings of beads, stuffed animal , balloons, flowers, and anything else you can give to a graduate.  (We made a nice frame with their graduation announcement enlarged and decorated.  Afton made it look really great)  It was the normal type of graduation ceremony except Pres Wayley gave the opening prayer.  Yes, a real prayer and a benediction was given that can still be done on the reservation.  Afterwards, it is traditional that they have a party for the graduate.  We went to Afton Sullivan and Marilee Chapman’s reception at the Kayenta Elementary School.  There were a least a 100 people there and the food was great.

The Proud Runners
Saturday we got up and went up to the church and helped with Seth Wayne graduation brunch.  After that we just took a break and hung out watching Nexflix.  I was so proud of Betty, Andy, Ben, Whitney because they all finished the half Marathon in Ogden and Sarah finish the whole Marathon.  I thought is was great that they all got together and succeeded in a goal in. I am very proud of them.   It really made Sarah's birthday special.   Later on that night Afton and I planted the flowers that we got on Mother’s Day.

Sunday was the normal crazy Sunday but to make things a little more difficult Bobby Bailey didn’t show up and a teacher too.  Kristie Parrish was a trooper and stepped up and conducted, I prepared a sharing time during 1st ward sacrament meeting and then we got Sally Singer to step in a substitute for the young class.  We thought things went well. But in all the confusion, we failed to check on the nursery person Lela Chatter.  I found out later that she lost it with the Johnson boy that kept crying.  I guess she called the RS President she wasn’t coming to church anymore.  (She is bi-polar)  I hope we can calm her down.  I didn’t know she had that problem and the Johnson boy is really too young to be in nursery.
Seminary graduation was this evening and I played for it.  They had chosen” Truth to the Faith” which is a difficult song to lead. I felt sorry for the young woman to lead the song because she didn’t have a clue as to what to do.  It was sort of a disaster because she didn’t understand what the beat should be.  Sister T the seminary teacher said that she saw that a few conducting lessen needed to be added to the seminary curriculum.   Seth and Afton got a 4 year diploma.  They are awesome young people
Afterwards, Bishop Gibson got the paper ready to  be signed by the Stake president.  Hopefully, I can catch him before he goes to Durango tomorrow when we go to Tuba to check out their  FHC.

  1. It looks like you are going to get a rug from my Aunt. My name is Brice Mabey and I live in Page, AZ. My Aunt and Grandma love the church. My grandma has had three of her grandsons serve missions. It was funny seeing picture of my grandma and aunt on your page. I hope you have a fun time on your mission.
